A vulnerable Scots woman is missing in Italy after vanishing on a family holiday.
Lisa Cairns, who suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, has not been seen since she left her accommodation in Naples 8am on Tuesday. The 44-year-old who also suffers from hallucinations, did not take her medication with her or any belongings.
Lisa, from Dundee, was staying in an apartment in Palazzo Mastelloni with her mum, Florence Jenkins, 68, step-dad, Vivian Jenkins, 64, and sister Nicola Cairns, 42, when she said she wanted to go on a morning walk for fresh air.
When her sister Nicola returned from the bathroom, Lisa had vanished.
The family were due to fly home to Dundee yesterday but a desperate search is now underway to find her.
Step-dad Vivian told the Record: "We are distraught and worried sick.
"Lisa was in the apartment and said she wanted to go for a walk yesterday morning. Her sister Nicola was going to go with her but before she could come out of the bathroom, Lisa dashed off. We heard the door slam.
"We ran downstairs after her but she went out into the street and was nowhere to be seen. We haven't seen her since.
"She knew we were due to fly home, so we are extremely concerned about her."
Lisa is missing without her medication, which she requires on a daily basis.
She is described as around 5ft and with short brown hair. When she went missing, she was wearing bright green trousers, a white t-shirt with black and navy blue trainers.
Vivian continued: "She went missing without any belongings or medication. Without her medication, reality won't be the same for her.
"She hears voices and sometimes they distract her. Normally her medicine helps control it but over the last week of the trip she was showing signs of deterioration.
"She wasn't interested in sightseeing or shopping, which she normally both loves."
Her family have been conducting their own searches of the area after reporting her missing to Italian police.
Vivian said his family feels let down by local police authorities who have not been in touch since they reported Lisa's disappearance.
He added: "The police are supposed to be out looking for her but we've not heard from them. We feel really let down.
"We've been out searching for ourselves all night. I don't understand how she could vanish into thin air.
"We won't be coming home without her and will stay here until she's found."
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed they are assisting the family in their search for Lisa.
An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has been reported missing in Italy, and are in contact with the local authorities.”
The Record has approached Italian police for comment.
