The supposedly saddest day of the year has almost arrived: Blue Monday.
January and February bring with them darker nights and colder days, making it all too tempting to curl up in front of the TV.
But cinema chain Vue is hoping to tempt the British public from their sofas with a series of classic comedies screening over the next few weeks.
In time for Blue Monday, Will Ferrell’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy will hit screens at Vue cinemas across the UK this weekend.
Comedy fans can then look forward to seeing Jim Carrey’s Dumb and Dumber and the classic Leslie Nielsen film Airplane!.
Steve Martin fans will be delighted to hear that Planes, Trains and Automobiles will return to the big screen, while South Park fans may feel nostalgic viewing South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut at the cinema once again.
Robert Lea, head of screen content at Vue Entertainment, said: “With January 16 marking Blue Monday this year, we wanted to brighten up the lives of film fans across the country by inviting them to revisit some of the UK’s favourite comedies.
“The big screen is a perfect place to escape from the pressures of everyday life and can provide an entertaining way to enjoy the start of the year and uplift the soul.”
So, why not beat the January blues with a classic comedy? And a big bucket of popcorn, of course.
