Votevets Urges Action On Ukraine Funding Amidst Stalled Aid Package

General view of the White House in Washington

The White House's request for a $60 billion aid package remains stalled in the House after passing the Senate. Today in Washington, a truck with a large screen will circle the Capitol all day playing an ad put together by the group of vote vets urging action on Ukraine funding using the words of Ronald Reagan.

Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, a senior advisor with VoteVets, emphasized the urgency of providing substantial aid to Ukraine, stating that the current $300 million allocation is insufficient given the scale of support needed. Vindman highlighted the importance of separating replenishment funds from drawdown authority to ensure adequate resources for both Ukraine and US military readiness.

The VoteVets ad featuring Ronald Reagan's words aims to remind Republicans of their historical commitment to national security and defense. Vindman criticized the current Republican stance on Ukraine aid, accusing them of prioritizing political interests over national security.

Vindman also addressed recent saber-rattling by Russian President Putin, dismissing nuclear threats as hollow attempts at regime preservation. He urged swift action on the Ukraine aid bill, emphasizing the critical role of passing the legislation in safeguarding US national security interests.

The administration has been called upon to utilize Presidential Drawdown Authority and explore additional support options for Ukraine, including leveraging frozen Russian assets and easing restrictions on contractors in-country. Vindman stressed the importance of exhausting all available avenues to ensure the passage of the aid bill.

VoteVets is intensifying its campaign efforts, including running the ad in key districts and holding vulnerable Republicans accountable for their stance on Ukraine funding. The organization is committed to maximizing pressure on lawmakers to prioritize national security and support for Ukraine.

As the debate over the aid package continues, Vindman reiterated the critical need for swift action to address the escalating crisis in Ukraine and uphold US commitments to global security.
