Swedish singer Loreen emerged victorious a the Eurovision Song Contest for a second time on Sunday morning while Australian rockers Voyager finished a creditable ninth.
Loreen, with her power ballad Tattoo, becoming the first woman, and only the second person, to claim the title twice.
The singer, who previously triumphed in 2012, narrowly beat Finland’s Kaarija after the public and jury votes were combined, with a total of 583 points to second-placed Finland’s 526.
Voyager, performing their song, Promise, joined the other 25 finalists amid speculation they could well claim the crown in a year that could be the last year Australian performers are allowed to compete.
Loreen had performed her anthemic dance-pop song ‘Tattoo’ for the international voting public, singing from an illuminated enclosed space on the stage.
Her win means she equals the record held by Irish singer Johnny Logan, who triumphed at the contest in both 1980 and 1987.
Loreen’s win also means Sweden will host the Eurovision for the 50th anniversary of Abba’s 1974 win with Waterloo.
