Volunteers needed to help stock lorry of supplies for the people of Ukraine

Volunteers are urgently needed to help stock a lorry load of supplies for the people of Ukraine.

Boxes of Hope NI have recently set up a new storage facility on East Bridge Street in Belfast where they are gathering much needed supplies to help those during the conflict with Russia.

They are currently gathering supplies and organising them into boxes with the aim of sending 18 tonnes in a lorry to Ukraine on Saturday, August 6.

The charity has said that they plan on sending regular lorries full of supplies to the country over the coming weeks and are asking people to support them as much as possible.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Ronan Martin of Boxes of Hope NI, said: "We are currently sorting out all of the supplies and donations that we have received for the people of Ukraine ahead of sending our first lorry over next week.

"However, we are in desperate need of volunteers to help us sort, box and load the donations into the lorry and would be very grateful to anyone who would be able to spare a little bit of time to support us.

"Our aim is to send 18 tonnes worth of supplies which consists of everything from warm winter clothing, shoes and blankets to nappies, soaps and toothpaste.

"We hope that we will be able to gather enough support and consistent donations so that we are able to send regular lorry loads to Ukraine and are working in partnership with Boxes of Hope in England to do this."

Boxes of Hope was originally launched in Lincolnshire, England, by a woman called Mandy Baxter and it has since gone on to open branches across the UK.

The new Belfast branch of the charity will now be the dedicated hub for donations for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland as it seeks to support those who have been affected by the Russian invasion.
