Vogue Williams defends Irish traditions that husband Spencer disagrees with

Irish model and media personality Vogue Williams and her husband Spencer Matthews have shared their opinions on certain Irish traditions.

It came as Vogue received an email that accused Spencer of being an “Irish basher”.

On this week’s episode of the Spencer and Vogue podcast, they discussed what “Irish people aren’t ready to hear”.

The pair began to discuss the Irish traditions. The first of which was thanking the bus driver when you get off.

Former Made in Chelsea star Spencer said that he agreed with it, and said he would thank the driver if he ever rode the bus. Vogue said: “In Ireland, you have to thank the bus driver. They’re doing you a favour, they’re giving you a lift.”

Next, Spencer declared: “Praying to St Anthony does nothing. He doesn’t exist.”

Horrified by the statement, Vogue replied: “I’m sorry. Absolutely disagree. If I hadn’t of said that prayer to St Anthony, this phone would not be in my hands. Thank you, St Anthony.”

The ‘Irish goodbye’, which entails leaving an event without telling anyone, was another tradition the pair agreed with.

Vogue said: “Irish goodbye. You'll never feel better then when you just ditch people. The next day, you wake up and you're grand and they're like, ‘Ugh we got in at 3am’. It's the best thing.”

Spencer agreed: “It's absolutely not rude. Saying goodbye is actually incredibly self-indulgent. Nobody cares if you're leaving a party. Just leave.”

One topic that riled Vogue was Irish butter, with Spencer saying: “Irish butter is not the only butter out there.”

The Dublin native very quickly disagreed and said: “Okay, this is where I have to strongly disagree with that point.

“I'm not saying there are no other butters out there - of course, there are - but if you ever see Irish butter, it's more yellow than any other butter because the cows eat the green grass in Ireland and it's more delicious."

Spencer disagreed, citing that the butter in Jersey was better. He mocked Vogue and said: “Like the grass is a different colour elsewhere. ‘The Irish cows eat the green grass in Ireland’. Grass is green everywhere.”

She replied: “Spenny, that is one of them that I'm not giving away. Irish butter is the best butter of all the butters.

“Let's agree to disagree. You can bring your own butter to Ireland, because you're not eating our butter anymore.”

Earlier in the episode, Vogue spoke about an email that claimed Spencer was an “Irish basher”.

The couple rubbished the claim, with Vogue pointing out that he is married to an Irish person.

“All my kids are Irish,” Spencer replied.
