Vladimir Coufal dismisses West Ham claims as he sets sights on a top four finish

Vladimir Coufal is well aware of West Ham's poor league record at Old Trafford ahead of the Hammers' trip to face Manchester United, but the defender is confident his team have what it takes to get a result.

West Ham have not won a Premier League match at Old Trafford since 2007, but having won their earlier this season in the Carabao Cup the Hammers head to Manchester in good spirits.

Despite the disappointing defeat to Leeds last weekend, Coufal is adamant his team are ready to bounce back this weekend.

"We lost the last game and were unlucky, but the spirit is still very, very good," Coufal told the club website.

"We have good relationships between us in the changing room, so we are in a good mood before Manchester United, and that’s the most important thing."

On the clash at Old Trafford, Coufal said: "They are at home and they are very strong there, but I think we are able to win there after a long time. It will be very difficult, but I believe in our team. We might need to be a little bit lucky, like in every game against a big team."

Coufal and his teammates have put the defeat to Leeds behind them and the defender admitted that little has changed because of the loss.

"Preparation has been good, like normal. We did some tactical things for Man United and some set pieces, like usual," he added.

"We don’t want to change everything because of one loss. We have processes and we have our system, our way to play, and we believe in ourselves."

Defeat at Old Trafford will see Manchester United leapfrog the Hammers and move into the top four whilst an away win will close the gap on third-placed Chelsea to just four points as West Ham chase a Champions League spot

"Of course, if we finished in the top four, it would be something unbelievable for all of West Ham as a club: for the fans, for the club’s history, and especially for some players who are here," Coufal said.

"They deserve to play in the Champions League for everything they have done for the club, and to bring the Champions League to London Stadium would be something unbelievable."

Coufal had a spell on the sidelines early this season after injury and the form of Ben Johnson but the defender is now back in the team and has no intention of giving up his spot, dismissing the tiredness claims.

"For me, personally, I am ready to spend every minute on the pitch," he added. "Until I am injured again, I will play as many minutes as possible, and also Tomas [Souček], Declan [Rice] and other players. We enjoy being together on the pitch, and we win together and we are successful together, so there’s no reason to be tired. We are ready to play."
