Visitors urinating in gardens as huge crowds cause 'chaos' at Colwick Country Park

Residents living near Colwick Country Park say recent crowds of people have created "chaos" near their homes.

Visitors have been urinating into people's properties, parking irresponsibly and leaving litter behind which has frustrated those living in the Mile End Road area of the village.

It comes after huge crowds of people descended on the park on Wednesday, June 16, amid high temperatures and sunshine - with many sunbathing or playing games and drinking by the lake.

Alcohol was confiscated by Nottingham City Council's Operational Response Team with a councillor warning irresponsible behaviour "won't be tolerated" at the city's beauty spots.

However, residents living close to Colwick Country Park say recent anti-social behaviour has merely added to existing problems with irresponsible parking they have to deal with.

One homeowner, who lives on nearby Ramblers Close, said: "It's not just the parking problem but the anti-social behaviour.

"The leaving of litter, the turning up to the park with crates of beer - I don't mind young people having fun but there is a limit to what we can put up with.

"Cars are parked on both sides of the road which leave no space for emergency services.

"If you come between 3pm and 7pm on a sunny day it is chaos. It's getting steadily worse - but yesterday was the worst it's been so far. There were hundreds of people.

"One of our neighbours caught people urinating on their fence on their CCTV, someone threw a used mask in our back garden. A lot of them have absolutely no respect for us or the area."

"It's just got worse and worse here," said one resident living on Mile End Road.

"The council said they were supposed to be doing something about it and it needs to be done soon.

"Yesterday was busy but it's been happening for ages. I go for a walk in that park near enough every day and you should have seen it - it was absolute heaving.

"They leave behind litter and they don't care about us living here. Yesterday evening I had three people just sat in my garden lying down. I was going to go out and ask them why they were there, but I live on my own so I thought I best leave it."

Meanwhile, Rachel and David Marsh were out walking their dog in the park.

"It's the calm after the storm this morning," said David, 44.

"I saw how it looked yesterday. I get it, honestly, if it's a nice day that people want to come and relax here and enjoy themselves. Hopefully they took everything home with them."

Rachel, 41, added: "I can imagine it gets to be a bit of a nightmare if you live around here, although it would be nice to have somewhere like this on your doorstep.

"The issue is when it becomes as busy as it did yesterday because that many people all in one place will cause problems."

Councillor Neghat Khan, Labour councillor for the Dales ward at Nottingham City Council, said: "We won't tolerate irresponsible behaviour in our open spaces, parks are for everyone to enjoy. Break the rules and enforcement action will be taken."
