Virginia's primary election on Tuesday is shaping up to be a crucial event, with significant races and candidates vying for nominations in various districts.

House District 5

Rep. Bob Good, a conservative incumbent, faces a tough primary challenge from state Sen. John McGuire, who has garnered support from former President Donald Trump. Good's endorsement of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over Trump has caused friction within the party, leading to a contentious race.

House District 7

With incumbent Abigail Spanberger stepping down to run for governor, seven Democrats are competing for the seat in a district that leans slightly blue. Notable candidates include Eugene Vindman, a military veteran, and Derrick Anderson and Cameron Hamilton on the Republican side.

House District 10

Following Jennifer Wexton's decision not to seek reelection due to health reasons, a crowded field of 12 Democrats and four Republicans are vying for the seat. Former Virginia House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn and state Sens. Dan Helmer and Suhas Subramanyam are among the Democratic contenders.

House District 2

In a district with a strong military presence, Navy veteran Missy Cotter Smasal and attorney Jeremiah “Jake” Denton IV are competing for the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Congresswoman Jen Kiggans.

U.S. Senate

Five Republicans are competing for the chance to challenge Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine for his Senate seat. Hung Cao, a Navy veteran endorsed by Trump, leads the pack in fundraising and experience, with other candidates including Scott Parkinson, Jonathan Emord, Eddie Garcia, and Chuck Smith.

Overall, the primary election in Virginia is poised to shape the political landscape in the state, with key races and candidates drawing attention from both parties.
