A Virginia mom was arrested after her child's preschool teacher discovered a firearm inside their backpack while distributing homework.
On Wednesday at Westview Early Childhood Education Center in Petersburg, Virginia, a teacher noticed a gun while placing homework into a preschooler's backpack, WRIC reported.
The teacher immediately notified school administrators and the school resource officer, who secured the weapon without incident. No students or staff were harmed.
Following the discovery, Petersburg Police arrested the child's mother, 26-year-old Brianne Lucas. She is now facing charges of felony child neglect and reckless handling of a firearm, as reported by WWBT.
The investigation is ongoing and Lucas is being held without bond, pending her next court appearance.
