Virginia Governor Orders Flags At Half-Staff For Slain Hero

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin speaks with reporters after an event where he and Ted Leonsis, owner of the Washington Wizards NBA basketball team and Washington Capitals HNL hockey team, announce plans

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has issued an order for flags to be flown at half-staff on Monday to honor Corey Comperatore, who tragically lost his life in the attempted assassination of former President Trump. The flags will be lowered from noon on Monday through Tuesday evening as a mark of respect.

In a statement, Governor Youngkin expressed Virginia's solidarity with the people of Pennsylvania, especially those who were injured in the attack and their families. Comperatore heroically shielded his wife and daughters during the shooting at Trump's rally in Butler, PA, where two other individuals were also shot and are currently in critical condition.

The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire on Trump and the crowd from the rooftop of a nearby industrial building. The investigation into Crooks' motives and the attack is still ongoing.

Former President Trump himself narrowly escaped injury, with a bullet grazing his right ear. Despite the incident, Trump is continuing with his campaign plans and is set to attend the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
