Virgin Media working 'flat out' after customers left without emails since Sunday

Virgin Media email problems are continuing for customers after the internet provider confirmed it had encountered a "technical problem" on Monday.

Email users have been unable to send and receive emails as a result of the issue, which the company is working to resolve. And while the email function has now returned, some customers are yet to receive important emails which were sent at the time of the disruption.

One Virgin Media customer told ChronicleLive: "My grandson hasn't got all of his emails back and that includes important ones from university. He's waiting for accommodation acceptance and things like that, but he's not been able to receive any of it."

"I'm very annoyed because it should have been up and running and sorted out by now. It's Wednesday now and this has gone on since Sunday."

The South Tyneside woman, who did not want to be named, said that some emails are beginning to appear in her inbox as of today, but those sent to her during the disruption have been lost. Virgin Media said teams are working "flat out" restore historic emails.

The customer added: "We've not heard anything from Virgin Media and only know about the problem by going onto 'check my Virgin Media status' ourselves. All it said was there's a problem with your emails and every day it says this will be fixed by such and such a time. And then it changes and changes again.

"But they're not saying what the problem is and I'm worried in case they've been hacked."

Virgin Media told ChronicleLive that there is nothing to suggest that any accounts or personal details have been compromised.

The customer claimed that she first noticed the issue on Sunday when she tried twice to send an email to a family member, which was never received. Virgin Media confirmed that there has been a technical problem which has affected some email users on Monday and Tuesday.

It added that the ability to send and receive emails was restored yesterday evening for all affected accounts, and work is ongoing on a small proportion of accounts to restore historic emails into their inboxes.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: "We have now restored the ability to send and receive emails for all affected accounts. Our teams are continuing to work flat out to restore historic emails into the inboxes of a small proportion of accounts. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused over the past two days."
