Virgin Media Television confirms attempted hack on station

Virgin Media Television has been the victim of an attempted hack, the station has confirmed.

The company has been the target of a "major hack" in recent days according to Minister of State Ossian Smyth. While the station said it has "fully contained, isolated and terminated" the attempts made to disrupt its systems.

Its security team identified the attempted attack on its systems in recent days. The move to stop the attack means there will be disruption to broadcasting temporarily.

It's expected to impact recorded programming that it set to air on Virgin Media Three, Four, More and the VMTV Player. The station continued: "We expect normal service will be resumed as soon as we have completed the review and verification process."

The situation affects only Virgin Media Television and not its services that are on offer across Ireland. Some technologies have been disconnected as the verification and review process is underway the station confirmed.
