Virgin Media offers free Nintendo Switch with new broadband

Virgin Media is offering a pretty tasty deal on its higher-end broadband and TV packages, which will last only a few days.

From today (July 30) to August 5, Virgin Media includes either £150 credit off your broadband (and TV) bill, or a Nintendo Switch.

Sure, it’s not the Nintendo Switch OLED and there are constant rumblings about the Switch successor. But this is a pretty solid deal for those already considering a meatier entertainment package for the home.

If you opt for the £150 rebate, it automatically comes off your first monthly bills.

We also like that the contracts here aren’t ridiculously long, as they can be in some phone deals, at 18 months apiece.

The bad news is to get the rebate or the console, you’re looking at monthly fees around the £60 mark.

Virgin Media’s best deal is the Biggest Combo Bundle, at £64.99 a month.

This provides 362Mbps broadband; Sky Sports; Sky Cinema HD; a Netflix Standard sub (worth £10.99 a month); “210+” TV channels including those of the Sky Entertainment family; and unlimited weekend calls for those still using a landline phone.

You can access all the content through the Virgin TV 360 box, which has a 1TB hard drive for any programmes you want to record.

The cheapest plans in the “free Nintendo Switch” deal are the £60.99 a month Bigger Combo Bundle + Movies. However, this provides slower 132Mbps internet and doesn’t include the £10.99 a month Netflix Standard or Sky Sports.

The Bigger Combo Bundle + Sports HD for £59.99 has the faster 362Mbps internet plus Sky Sports HD. It’s an OK deal, but not close to the value of the Biggest Combo Bundle if you remotely enjoy movies.

Want to spend big? There’s a maxed-out £84.99 Mega Volt bundle, which bumps up the home internet to gigabit (1130Mbps) speeds and includes an O2 phone SIM with “unlimited” data and calls.

If you decide to go for one of these deals, set a calendar reminder for the end of the 18-month contract. The monthly fees will shoot up to £178 a month after that. Threaten to leave to get a better deal, or hunt down a new one elsewhere.
