Virgin Media customers furious as thousands are left without internet access

Thousands of Virgin Media customers have been reacting angrily after their broadband services went down overnight. Users all across Wales have been affected by the mystery outage which left many with no wifi or internet access.

Many have expressed their frustration on social media about being unable to fulfil their work commitments. The problem is believed to have started just after 1am, according to the Downdetector website. A huge number of complaints were made from 6.30am as people tried to log on. The service reported more than 1,400 internet issues between 1am and 7am -nearly 25% of users complained of a "total blackout."

To make matters worse, Virgin Media's official website appeared to crash amid the huge influx of reported issues. Remaining down until an hour or so ago, users had been unable to even access the provider's status checker for an update on the situation.

And a subsequent lack of response from Virgin Media's customer support team only served to fuel people's ire. "Is anyone else having problems with Virgin Media this morning?" one person asked on Twitter. "I can't even get on the website to check status!"

Another fumed: "This is absolutely unacceptable. They keep putting the price up, and yet the service keeps getting worse!"

Someone else posted, "A sleepless night thanks to @virginmedia and ZERO information or apology. Yes, things go wrong but the least you can do is tell us via a reliable service page.

"That would have saved me a trip to the office at 3am." A statement from Virgin Media, posted online at 8.20am, read, "We're aware of an issue that is affecting broadband services for Virgin Media customers as well as our contact centres.

"Our teams are currently working to identify and fix the problem as quickly as possible." Normal service was finally restored for many customers at around 9.40am today.

A company rep added that the situation is being 'closely monitored' while its engineers "continue to investigate." They also apologised for any inconvenience caused.
