Virgin Media broadband down reports as Twitter flooded with complaints

Virgin Media customers have taken to social media to complain after not being able to get on the internet.

Hundreds of broadband customers are reporting connectivity issues, meaning that many are unable to get work done from home. Outage tracker DownDetector shows that problems are being logged all over the UK, with hotspots in London, Belfast, Birmingham and Glasgow - but today the company said services were working normally.

Landline internet problems made up 72% of customer complaints, with 10% reporting issues with mobile internet and 18% with both. It seems that problems began at around 7am this morning, on October 11.

One Twitter user complained: "#virginmedia please make some kind of announcement that your systems are down before having people struggle to do an online diagnostic that doesn't work, waiting for ages on an expensive helpline then being immediately told everything is down so ring back in two hours."

Another user said: "My broadband is down, and has been since around 0705 this morning." Meanwhile, a third added: "@virginmedia what IS going on? Internet down and so is your help page? Apparently you cant run a test on my services..is that because you are not providing one?"

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: "Broadband, TV and landline services are working as usual this morning.

"We’re aware of a technical issue which means we’re not able to access customer systems or activate new services right now, but new installs will still take place.

"Our TV, phone and broadband services are unaffected and customers wishing to manage their account should contact us later this afternoon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and our teams are working hard to get this fixed as quickly as possible.”
