Virgil Van Dijk has insisted that he’s only focused on Liverpool after being asked about joining Real Madrid.
Virgil Van Dijk Out Of Contract Next Summer
The Dutchman is one of three Liverpool key men out of contract next summer – along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Van Dijk will leave for nothing at the end of the season should he be unable to agree to new terms at Anfield.
Question marks over his contract have led to speculation over his future and has been linked with a move to Spain.
Reports have linked the 33-year-old with a switch to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
What Virgil Van Dijk Said When Asked About A Move To Real Madrid
Van Dijk was directly asked by a Spanish journalist if he would be open to a move to the Bernabeu next summer after starring in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid.
Despite being caught off guard, Van Dijk humoured the journalist when asked about the links with Real Madrid.
“Wow, what a direct question. They don’t ask me that direct [in England],” joked Van Dijk. “At the moment, there is nothing I can say. The only thing I can say is that I’m fully focussed on [Liverpool’s next game against] Man City.”
The El Chiringuito journalist responded: “Real Madrid need defenders. Alaba, Militao all are injured.” Van Dijk replied: “[Antonio] Rudiger is there?”

The football journalist continued to prod Van Dijk over a move, adding: “Maybe you in Real Madrid?”
Van Dijk replied: “When?”, to which the journalist said: “In the summer.”
Van Dijk refused to give a definitive answer before repeating: “Wow. I don’t know, the main focus for me is facing Man City.”
Liverpool’s Contract Crisis
Virgil Van Dijk has been at Liverpool since completing a then world-record £75 million move from Southampton in January 2018.
He has gone on to become one of the best defenders in the world on a consistent basis and is adored by Liverpool fans.

Van Dijk leaving the club would be a monumental blow while the departures of Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold would not sit well with the Reds fanbase.
Alexander-Arnold has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid next summer.
