Virgil van Dijk has warned Manchester City they will find it “uncomfortable” being chased down by Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
Having looked to be striding towards another league crown just a few months ago, City have seen their lead over their nearest rivals cut down dramatically, with plenty of games still remaining in the season.
Following last month’s draw with Southampton and last weekend’s defeat to Tottenham, Liverpool moved just three points behind City, with Jurgen Klopp’s side having been in superb form in recent weeks as they’ve breathed new life into the title race.
Pep Guardiola’s men managed to extend their lead back to six points with victory at Everton on Saturday, giving themselves a bit more breathing space with the Reds not in action due to their Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea on Sunday.
But the title race is never far from the minds of the chasing pack, and having been in a similar position just a few years ago, Van Dijk believes City will be feeling the pressure.
"A couple of years ago, we were in the hot-seat where we were a few points in front and it was tough and we gave it away," Van Dijk told the Daily Mail.
"It is not a very comfortable place to be. It is not easy to deal with the pressure but City have proven they can because they are unbelievable.
"If someone doesn't believe in the title race any more, then don't come and support us because you have to have belief that we can win games and turn this around. There are still so many games to play.
"We are on a good level at the moment. There are always things to improve but the consistency we are showing is important and key to being able to compete against City."
City managed to overhaul Liverpool during the 2018/19 season, with the Reds having held a seven-point lead over the Blues at one stage.
Guardiola and his side will hope they don’t suffer the same fate, with the two sides set to meet at the Etihad in April in what could prove to be a title decider.
