Virgil van Dijk echoed the thoughts of all Liverpool fans after the club’s Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea.
The Reds more than played their part in a thrilling 0-0 draw which included four disallowed goals and impressive saves from both goalkeepers.
Van Dijk himself was adjudged to be offside in the build-up to Joel Matip’s second-half header, which had seemed to have given Liverpool the lead.
However, the Dutchman went on to pick up the player of the match award after helping to keep a clean sheet for 120 minutes and then calmly dispatching the Reds' third penalty in the dramatic penalty shoot-out, which was settled when Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga blazed his effort over the bar.
Taking to social media after lifting the trophy at Wembley, Van Dijk wrote: “It’s Boss being a Red.”
It was accompanied by the 30-year-old holding the Carabao Cup in one hand and player award in the other while wearing his latest medal - as well as pictures of him celebrating Chelsea’s decisive penalty miss and lifting the trophy in the stands.
A few hours later, Liverpool posted a video of the defender posing with the cup, medal and individual award in the dressing room, before breaking out into laughter.
The Carabao Cup is Van Dijk’s fifth major honour since joining Liverpool in January 2018, having already picked up Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup medals.
Having lifted their first possible piece of silverware this season, Jurgen Klopp’s side are still in both the Champions League and FA Cup and are potentially within three points of Premier League leaders Manchester City.
