Virat Kohli registers highest Test score against Australia in Ahmedabad

NEW DELHI: Star Indian batter Virat Kohli on Sunday registered his highest Test score against Australia during the fourth and final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

'King' Kohli, who hit his first Test century in over three years, surpassed his previous best of 169 against Australia in 2014 at the MCG.

Batting maestro Kohli’s innings finally ended at the score of 186 in quest of his 8th double ton as he was losing partners quickly at the other end. Off-spinner Todd Murphy once again got rid of Kohli - fourth time in the series so far.

Resuming on 59 after reaching his first Test half-century on Day 3 since January 2022, Kohli ended his long century drought after a gritty knock off 241 balls, which included only five boundaries, with a single off Nathan Lyon.

The 34-year-old Kohli acknowledged the crowd and the dressing room in a very subtle way before kissing his wedding ring on his chain and looked up to the sky.

The former Indian captain has a Test average of over 48 in 108 matches since making his debut in 2011 and has struck 75 centuries across the three international formats.

Kohli's previous Test hundred came way back in November 2019 against Bangladesh in a day-night game at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Kohli stands fourth in the all-time Test century list for India behind Sachin Tendulkar (51), Rahul Dravid (36) and Sunil Gavaskar (34).
