Jackie Chan has a huge fan-base of people who grew up watching his action-packed movies. Recently, a rather emotional video of Chan went viral on social media. In a clip shared by a Twitter user, the description read, "Jackie Chan and his daughter crying while watching some of his old movie scenes is the most wholesome thing you’ll watch today. Thanks for our childhood legend."
So far, the video has garnered more than 68 million views. People felt touched seeing Chan share these teary-eyed moments with this young woman who called him "papa."
"As a dad, this melts my heart. The things we do for a career, the pain and suffering….it’s all for them. It always all for them," a Twitter user wrote.
However, comments soon started flooding in revealing that the young woman in the video is actually an actor, and not Chan's real daughter. Twitter feature Community Notes also highlighted "readers added context" right below the video, which "directly addresses the Tweet’s claim" and revealed that, "The video is from a movie wherein Jackie Chan, playing a stuntman, watches his old movies with his daughter - the actress Liu Haocun." The clip is from his film 'Ride On.'
Several rumors started circulating then, claiming "Jackie Chan disowned his OWN daughter because she was gay." The same was highlighted on another Twitter Community Note the the viral video tweet, which said, "Jackie Chan has been estranged from his daughter for decades, allegedly due to his affair with her mother (actor and beauty queen Elaine Ng Yi-lei) and discomfort with her sexuality."
However, this also turned out to be false, as Chan has never been in touch with his daughter Etta since her birth.
As per reports, nine days before Elaine’s due date in 1999, Jackie held a press conference to say that he “only committed a fault that every single man in the world commits.”
In 2004, he said in an interview, “I know I have failed my daughter, but since her mother is that kind of a person, I don’t know how to treat (my daughter)”, insinuating that Elaine had planned the pregnancy.
Over the years, Elaine has said to the media that Jackie has never visited Etta and doesn’t provide any financial support. In 2015, Elaine was arrested for abusing her then 15-year-old daughter and failing her duties as a mother.
