VIP chairs made for Liverpool vs Man United game stolen from stadium

Thieves casually strolled into a football stadium and swiped seats specially designed for players sitting in the dug-out during Liverpool's pre-season clash with Manchester United.

The Premier League sides met at the Rajamangala Stadium, in Thailand's capital Bangkok, on July 12 as part of their respective pre-season tours. The match organisers commissioned bespoke chairs for the players and staff in the dug-outs, embossed with each club's badge.

However on Saturday morning (July 16) a group of men wandered into the empty stadium and took four of the chairs, two designed for Liverpool players and two for Manchester United players. CCTV captured the group loading the chairs into a white van at around 6am before driving way, according to Thai media.

The thieves were able to stroll past stadium security as the guards assumed they had been sent to remove the chairs by the match organisers. Vinij Lertratanachai, chief executive of match organiser Fresh Air Festival, told The National that the chairs had been made specially for the match.

Thai police have now arrested a man in connection with the theft and seized a van. Manchester United, in their first match under new manager Erik Ten Hag, won the fixture 4-0 with goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri.
