A robber whose vulnerable victim ended up in hospital after he stormed his home on Christmas Day has been jailed for 13 years.
Thug Jonathan Ashton forced his way into the man's house in Sheffield on Christmas morning in 2020, leaving the terrified man in with head injuries.
Sheffield Crown court heard how the victim, a man in his sixties, was home alone at the time when he heard a knock at his back door.
As he answered, callous Ashton barged into the house before repeatedly punching the victim - who had attempted to square up to him - to his head and body.
Ashton was sentenced while currently serving prison time for another robbery and firearms crimes.
Police described his crime as "calculated and violent" as the 35-year-old was jailed for 13 and a half years at the court on Tuesday, which the judge ordered would be served concurrently alongside his current sentence.
Detective Constable John Briers of South Yorkshire Police said: "Ashton’s behaviour was calculated and violent.
"He went to that property with the intention of stealing and causing harm to whomever got in his way.
"Through examination of CCTV footage in the local area, the support of witnesses who heard the commotion at the victim’s house and saw Ashton fleeing, as well as forensic evidence recovered from the scene, we were able to present a comprehensive case to the court and I am pleased he has received a further, lengthy custodial sentence for his crimes that day."
