Violent murder bid on busy Scots streets sparks police appeal to festive revellers

An attempted murder investigation has been launched by police after a man was attacked in Glasgow’s Merchant City.

Officers are keen to speak to Christmas revellers who may have witnessed the incident on Glassford Street, between Wilson Street and Trongate, at around 1am on Sunday, December 18.

Investigators were called in two days after a 34-year-old man was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he has been receiving treatment.

Detective Sergeant Donna McDougall, of Glasgow CID, said: “A man has been left with serious injuries and it is vital we trace whoever is responsible.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or noticed anything at all suspicious, to come forward.

"This area was busy with people out socialising and we are particularly keen to speak to people who were in the Merchant City area around this time.

"Anyone with any relevant dash-cam or CCTV footage who has not spoken to police yet, is urged to contact officers. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3172 of Wednesday, 21 December, 2022.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
