Vintage afternoon tea aims to raise funds for Kirkcudbright Parish Church redevelopment

The fundraising campaign to redevelop Kirkcudbright Parish Church will take another step forward next weekend.

And it’s hoped the vintage afternoon tea in the church hall on Saturday, February 12, won’t need divine intervention to draw the crowds.

The ambitious redesign scheme will see the church interior transformed into a multi-use community venue.

Regular Sunday and other services will continue to be held, along with funerals and weddings.

Fundraising committee member Tracy Jones said: “The Church of Scotland approved our plans early in 2021.

“The estimated cost is £300,000, some of which has already been available through gifts, legacies and Church funds.

“We have been left to find £230,506 and, to date, we have raised £78,650.

“We were granted permission last summer to upgrade the audio visual system and start replacing the pews with chairs.

“And our fashion show last November was a great opportunity to showcase to all guests the full potential of holding something very different in such a wonderful building.”

The makeover includes fully accessible toilet and bathroom facilities, heating and lighting upgrades, new drainage and water services and improvements to the main entrance area.

The design brief also makes provision for a dedicated meeting room, a permanent base for the Foodbank and redecoration.

Ms Jones added: “We have a long way to go with our fundraising.

“But I can honestly say the folk of Kirkcudbright are really focused on making our dream a reality.”

Tickets for the vintage tea are £6 and are available at Thomson’s Newsagents or at the door on the day.

The event runs from 2pm to 4pm and will feature a raffle and sales table while the hall will be decorated with decorative bunting, china crockery and ornate cake stands.

Homemade sandwiches and cakes will be available.

All proceeds from what will be a special event will go towards the Kirkcudbright Parish Church Redevelopment Project.
