Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is reportedly in talks to become Burnley ’s new manager.
The Athletic state that the 36-year-old, who is currently in charge of Anderlecht in his native Belgium, is keen on a move to Turf Moor and trying to get the Clarets back into the Premier League after their relegation down to the Championship.
The ex-City defender is said to be in talks over becoming Burnley's new manager and is on their three-man shortlist to become the permanent successor to Sean Dyche after he was sacked last month. It is claimed the Turf Moor club hope to have their next manager in place by the end of next week.
During the 2021/22 campaign under Kompany, Anderlecht finished third in their regular league season, also finishing third in the end of campaign play-offs, putting them in the qualification rounds for next season’s Europa Conference League. The legendary defender originally become the player-manager of the Belgian club in 2019 when leaving Manchester City but stepped back during that season before taking the reins full-time when retiring in 2020.
In his first full season in charge during the 2020/21 campaign, Kompany took Anderlecht to a fourth-placed finish, again putting them in the qualification rounds of the Europa Conference League. He has taken charge of 92 matches in all competitions, winning 42 of those at a rate of 45.65%.

Burnley’s final eight games of the season last term were overseen by caretaker boss Mike Jackson, who picked up 11 points from a possible 24. However, that run was no enough for the Clarets to avoid the drop.
A 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle United on the final day of the season on Sunday saw Burnley finish in 18 th place, ending a six-season stay in the Premier League. From when Jackson took over in caretaker charge, Burnley’s return of points was the tenth best in the division, higher than the likes of Manchester United and West Ham United, who will both be playing in Europe next season.
Given the links with Kompany, it is perhaps unlikely that Jackson will take the managerial position on a full-time basis. During Kompany’s 11-year spell at Man City, he made 360 appearances in all competitions, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four Carabao Cups.
