Vincent Kompany appoints ex Man City teammate as Burnley assistant

Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany has appointed his former teammate Craig Bellamy as assistant manager of Burnley.

Bellamy played for City between 2009 and 2011 where he played alongside Kompany in 36 matches. The Welsh forward eventually moves onto Liverpool before rounding off his career in 2014 at hometown club Cardiff City.

Since retiring from football, Bellamy had a spell in charge of Cardiff's academy, and worked as Anderlecht's U21 manager before Kompany promoted him to assistant in 2021 for a short spell of nine matches. Alongside Bellamy, Kompany also appointed Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Bram Geers, Floribert Ngalula and Richard Bredice to various backroom roles at Turf Moor on Friday.

Discussing the appointments, Kompany said: "I am delighted Craig, Jelle, Bram, Floribert and Richard have all agreed to join and play an integral role in helping to develop the players and build a successful team at Burnley Football Club. I have worked with all five men before and I know the qualities and experience they will bring to the club.

"We already have an excellent group of staff at the club and collectively we are excited to work together as we prepare for the new season."

Kompany exercised his links to City on the pitch in this transfer window too after Taylor Harwood-Bellis joined the Clarets on loan and CJ Egan-Riley made the permanent switch to Burnley.
