Villarreal forward outlines trophy ambition amid Liverpool transfer links

Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma has provided a hint on his future amid reported links with a move to Liverpool.

The Reds were linked with a move for the former Bournemouth winger last summer, as rumours continued to surface over the club targeting a wide forward.

However, the arrival of Luis Diaz in January may have led to some of that speculation dwindling.

But that hasn’t stopped Danjuma being linked with a move to Anfield, and even though his favoured role is on the left, he has been utilised as a centre-forward at Villarreal this term.

Danjuma has expressed his desire to be at a club that wins the Champions League in the future.

The 25-year-old did not, though, go into much detail over whether or not he sees himself leaving Villarreal in order to achieve his long-term ambition, amid continued links with Liverpool.

"I'm really looking forward to the game [against Juventus] in the Champions League, obviously we won the Europa League last year and competing in the Champions League is a massive achievement for the club," Danjuma told Spanish news outlet Marca .

"That's what they wanted to be doing and is something they told me when I joined the club.

"They told me that they wanted to compete in the Champions League this year so yeah, so far so good. To be really honest with you, the coach [Unai Emery] has been placing focus on La Liga too after we dropped points at the start of the season - so it's not just the Champions League that we are focusing on, La Liga is really important for us as well.

"Besides that, the Champions League is the highest form of international club football, so I think that is something that helps bring out the best in me. The higher the platform, the more you want to prove yourself.

"I can't explain the feeling when you step onto the pitch and hear the Champions League music, it gives you goosebumps. You know the whole world is watching and you want to perform.

"Winning the Champions League is obviously the aim so I would never say that it is impossible even if we are the underdogs.

"I always strive for greatness and that is our narrative and something that we want to achieve. So that is our goal, we will try our best to win it."
