Villanova women’s basketball star Maddy Siegrist broke yet another record in the school's Sweet 16 showdown with Miami on Friday.
Siegrist, after scoring 31 points in the Wildcats’ 70–65 loss to Miami, registered 20 or more points in all 37 games this year, including 17 games of 30 points or more. The 37 consecutive 20-point-game stretch is the longest streak by any women's or men's D-I player this century.
In her four years on the Main Line, Siegrist became the all-time leading scorer in the history of Villanova basketball for both men and women (2,896 points). In addition, the incredible talent is the all-time leading scorer in Big East Conference history with 1,693 points in regular season conference action.
The National Player of the Year finalist, who led Division I with 29.2 points per game while grabbing 9.1 rebounds a game, was simply outstanding during her collegiate career on the Main Line. Siegrist ended up scoring 1,081 points this season, finishing just 28 points shy of breaking the single-season scoring record set by Kelsey Plum back in 2017.
The 2022 Big East Player of the Year is a finalist for the 2023 Naismith Award joining a list that includes Caitlin Clark (Iowa), Aliyah Boston (South Carolina) and Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech).
