People have voiced their concerns about their village possibly becoming cut off from the rest of Merseyside for five nights.
Hightown is famous for its one road in and out of the village, but with the road set to be resurfaced, residents are worried about the thought of being 'trapped'. The work is set to begin on March 30 and last until April 4.
Alt Road will close from 7pm until 1am each night whilst the road undergoes essential maintenance. This has led to speculation with a local Facebook page titled Hightown Village alerting residents to the upcoming closure.

The page posted: "Important notice. Planned road closure in/out of Hightown village during early April. From 7pm to 1am for four nights.
"We will aim to investigate as to whether we will have light control access or whether it’s a full closure as many will be affected by this action as we don’t have an effective suitable alternative route in/out of the village. If anyone does have any additional details/information it would be greatly appreciated!"
Since the post was published, people have commented and questioned whether people and emergency services will be able to come in and out of the village. One person wrote: "I work in the evenings, so will require access. What's the alternative route into Hightown? I didn't even know there was one!"
Another person commented: "I drove down past the farm and cricket club yesterday to avoid traffic at The Pheasant with the tragic incident on the bypass. Sandy Lane up to Gorsey Lane has been levelled out and isn’t as bad as it was to drive down but would still be inadequate as an alternative."
Sefton Council has confirmed that the closure will allow for residents and emergency services to pass through the roadworks despite the road closure.
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: "These are important carriageway resurfacing works to ensure the road is safe and useable for motorists. While there isn't a diversion route in place (owing to the nature of where Hightown is geographically), residents of that area will be allowed access and egress at all times despite the closure, which is purposefully taking place overnight to ensure minimal disruption.
"The same goes for emergency services. This means at most there may be some slight delays to journey times for residents coming into and leaving the village but we have ensured there is plenty of notice for this closure so that residents can factor this into their journeys."
