Village near Merseyside that has 'odd' Spanish street signs

One village just outside of Merseyside is home to quirky Spanish street signs.

Tarleton, a few miles north of Merseyside, is a tranquil village in the countryside to the east of Southport and north of Skelmersdale. However, one eagled eye driver noticed that Spanish road signs have popped up in the area.

One has appeared at the junction of Carr Lane and Gorse Lane, but there was no explanation as to why a quiet town in South Ribble had these signs pop up overnight. One person posted in a local Facebook group saying: "What's with the Spanish street signs in Tarleton?"

A number of people claimed it was due to the fact that a number of people lorry drivers passing through the area are Spanish and Portuguese. One person commented: "Spanish and Portuguese lorries [have] been coming to Banks since the 70s."

Another person said: "Lots of Spanish lorry drivers visit the growers on the moss [the local farming area]."

Another commenter joked that Tarleton resembles the Catalonian city of Barcelona. They said: "Tartelona."

Despite being asked for comment on the real reason as to why the signs have appeared in the village, Lancashire County Council is yet to comment.
