He had to bide his time but Viljami Sinisalo finally made his Celtic debut on Saturday.
The Finnish goalkeeper was rewarded with his first competitive appearance for Celtic in their emphatic 5-0 Scottish Cup fifth round victory over Raith Rovers, marking the occasion with a clean sheet and a message of appreciation for the supporters.
Following the final whistle, Sinisalo took to social media to share his joy, posting: “Debut at Paradise. Thanks for all the support.”
Sinisalo stepped in for first choice shot-stopper Kasper Schmeichel, who was sidelined with a minor back injury but is expected to return for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.
The 23-year-old, who joined from Aston Villa on a five-year contract last summer, previously impressed on loan at Ayr United.
His solid debut highlights Celtic’s strength in depth between the posts.
