A wide receiver has never won the MVP award in its 70-year history. Not even Jerry Rice’s 1,848-yard season was enough to dethrone Brett Favre in 1995.
The 33rd Team listed six dark-horse NFL MVP candidates before training camp. Andy Benoit believes that Vikings star Justin Jefferson has a chance to be the first receiver to claim the prestigious award.
Justin Jefferson is the most valuable non-QB offensive player in football. The Minnesota Vikings wideout can dominate from any alignment on any type of route and is one of the few wide receivers who can consistently produce against dedicated double teams.
Jefferson will be used all over the field in Kevin O’Connell’s offense this upcoming season. The versatility of the superstar receiver makes him possibly the deadliest weapon in the league outside of the quarterback position.
Minnesota is no stranger to having non-QBs winning the award. The last non-QB to win the MVP award was Adrian Peterson in 2012.
