Vikings’ QB Sam Darnold continues to defy the odds

It might not have been the most complete game on Sunday, but Vikings first-year quarterback Sam Darnold continues to play lights out for Minnesota. Going into hostile territory, Darnold was excellent in the first 30 minutes for the Vikings. There were a couple of hiccups in the second half when he threw an interception and fumbled a football — that was exactly his fault.

But for the game, Darnold completed 20-of-28 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns. He helped give the Vikings enough cushion in the first half that their second-half woes didn’t cost Minnesota. The Vikings moved to 4-0 on the year following a 31-29 victory.

Darnold became the first QB in Vikings history to post a 100+ passer rating in each of the team’s first four games to start a season, tying the longest streak among all quarterbacks league-wide since 1970. In fact, his lowest passer rating came in a Week 2 win over the 49ers when Darnold finished with a 109.2 rating.

The former top-five NFL pick continues to defy the odds. While it’s still early, and the NFL season is a grueling 17-week schedule — Darnold is hot and is making all the throws necessary to win games. Through four games, he has 932 yards through the air, 11 passing touchdowns, and just three interceptions.
