San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has so many options at his disposal offensively. But star running back and “Madden NFL 24” cover athlete Christian McCaffrey didn’t suit up in Week 1 against the New York Jets because of an Achilles calf injury.
What are the chances the Minnesota Vikings will have to go up against the explosive running back on Sunday? According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who spoke on “Good Morning Football” on Wednesday morning, it’s a long shot McCaffrey suits up.
While that’s ideal for the Vikings’ defense, Minnesota will still have to game-plan for other options. Brock Purdy has a few good targets to throw the ball to, including Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle. And backup running back Jordan Mason was the player of the game in the 49ers’ win on Monday night. The third-year pro ran for 147 yards on 28 carries and scored a touchdown while starting for the injured McCaffrey.
Regardless of whether McCaffrey plays, the Vikings will have their hands full with one of the best teams in the league.
