Vikings make T.J. Hockenson NFL’s highest paid tight end

The Minnesota Vikings have officially agreed to a contract extension with tight end T.J. Hockenson. The wording of the reporting was that he wasn’t going to reset the tight end market, but that ended up being the case.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, The Vikings have signed Hockenson to a four-year, up to $68.5 million deal with $42.5 million, both of which are a new high for the tight end position.

This is an interesting development for the Vikings, as Kwesi Adofo-Mensah had been previously unwilling to sign players to a long-term contract. The majority of his contracts have been one or two years.

This move will set a precedent for the rest of his contract extensions, as his first completely reset the market. Up next: Justin Jefferson.
