The Minnesota Vikings have officially hired Super Bowl LVI champion Kevin O’Connell as their new head coach.
No more whispers or code talk for what the whole world has already known to be true for a couple weeks now. O’Connell is coming to Minnesota, and he’s having his Super Bowl ring shipped to him.
A new era has arrived for the Vikings.
There’s obviously plenty of excitement considering the team has missed the playoffs for the last two seasons. O’Connell brings an offensive mindset (finally) and a lot of energy to a Vikings organization that is too talented to be dealing with those sorts of struggles.
The 10th head coach in franchise history.
Welcome to Minnesota, Kevin O'Connell!

Make no mistake, one man isn’t going to fly into town, throw on a red cape and save the team all on his own. It’s going to take a herculean effort from O’Connell, the front office, ownership and most importantly, the players.
But the former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator is expected to play a big role in all of it. He was the man that beat out Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh in the interview room for the Vikings. At the very least, he’s going to make for a fun pairing as a first-time head coach with first-time general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
It’s becoming harder and harder to harp on youth and inexperience when Rams head coach Sean McVay shot to the moon and won his first Super Bowl by age 36.
O’Connell has seen the formula for success up close, and the hope is that he brings as much as he can, if not all of it, to Minnesota.
