The Minnesota Vikings currently have only three cornerbacks under contract for the upcoming season, which means this offseason they’ll need to address the lack of depth at the position. There were rumblings Thursday that the Vikings are interested in bringing veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson back, but they may also look to the NFL Draft to add some depth.
On Thursday, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports released his latest mock draft, which had the Vikings selecting Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks.
“If length and man-coverage capabilities are what the Vikings are after with Brian Flores calling the defense, Banks is the ideal pick here.”
Banks’ skill set would fit the Vikings and Brian Flores defense perfectly. He’s a sticky corner who consistently stays in the pocket of the wide receiver while in coverage. He also has great awareness and uses the sidelines to his advantage.
Banks is a physical corner who could benefit from more consistency as he can get too aggressive at times. With good coaching at the next level, he could develop into a premier outside corner in the NFL.
