Vikings Acquire QB Josh Dobbs from Cardinals

The Vikings are acquiring Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs in a deal ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday, Arizona announced on Tuesday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings traded a sixth-round pick to the Cardinals while also getting a seventh-round pick that could become a sixth-round pick back in the deal.

Arizona originally traded a seventh-round pick to the Browns for Dobbs at the end of training camp, as they needed a quarterback with Kyler Murray rehabbing his torn ACL. Dobbs proceeded to start eight games for the Cardinals, going 1–7 but throwing for 1,569 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions.

Dobbs started four seasons at Tennessee from 2013 to ’16 before the Steelers drafted him in the fifth round of the 2017 draft. The quarterback played in six games for Pittsburgh, then started two games for the Titans last year before his time in Arizona this season.

Cardinals rookie Clayton Tune will now start for Arizona until Murray is ready to return.

Minnesota needed a quarterback after Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles tendon on Sunday, as their backup is fifth-round rookie Jaren Hall. If Hall proves to be too inexperienced to start, Dobbs has the experience to take over for the 4–4 team.
