Welcome to the beginning of our 2023 season preview content!

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at each player on the roster in-depth with backgrounds and how they currently project forward on the Minnesota Vikings roster.

Best case scenario

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The selection of Roy was an interesting one in many ways, but the biggest intrigue is Roy’s comp: Dalvin Tomlinson. The versatility that he brings to the table in having the ability to play across the line. With his best position being at 1T/NT, Roy is going to be a really good player at that spot on pass rushing downs while playing 3T/5T on first and second down.

Worst case scenario

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

As a fifth-round pick, it’s difficult to put expectations on Roy for this season. He was projected as a first-round pick going into the 2022 season but a down year for LSU hurt both him and his draft stock. His best position being at NT while weighing slightly under 300 lbs is a small red flag as well.

What to expect in 2023

USA Today Sports

Roy is almost certain to make the 53-man roster. They traded up to get him, and a general manager won’t want to walk away from that kind of investment right away. Seeing how Brian Flores utilizes him in the defensive line rotation will be key to his 2023 and beyond.
