Best case scenario
The shift to playing for Brian Flores should help Bynum, especially in sub packages. Bynum was an outside cornerback at Cal, but didn’t have the athletic profile to play there full time in the NFL. That experience will allow him to line up in multiple spots and Flores can use him in advantageous situations.
Worst case scenario
Unlike other safeties in the room, Bynum isn’t a great athlete and struggles playing in both two-high and single-high looks. A really poor training camp could allow the likes of Lewis Cine and Josh Metellus to overtake him for the starting job.
What to expect in 2023
Bynum played relatively well in 2022 despite Ed Donatell putting them in poor situations. That is something that Flores won’t be doing regularly, if at all. Bynum is likely to be utilized all over the field in a versatile role, but the emergence of Cine could cost Bynum his starting job. That will be something to monitor throughout the season.
