Vikings 2024 NFL draft scouting report: Oregon CB Khyree Jackson

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

Background

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Khyree Jackson

  • Oregon
  • Transfer from Alabama
  • Height-6034
  • Weight-203 lbs
  • Fifth-year Senior
  • 4-Star JUCO recruit per 247 Sports
  • Stats: 48 tackles, 36 solo, 6.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 8 passes defended, 3 interceptions
  • Games watched: Washington 2023, USC 2023, Colorado 2023

Strengths

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

Jackson is a talented player who also has incredible size and good length for the position. He tracks the football well and uses his length to attack the football.

Displays excellent ball skills. Had eight PBUs on just 38 targets in 2023 and only had 48 total targets in college.

Is a very willing tackler. Attacks the ball carrier with good technique. Only two missed tackles in 2023 per PFF.

In phase, Jackson does a good job staying in the hip pocket of the receiver. Doesn’t allow the receiver to outrun him and keeps within striking distance.

Weaknesses

Craig Strobeck-USA TODAY Sports

Is relatively slight of frame at only 203 lbs. Can get bullied by wide receivers at the LOS and the stem.

Wastes some movements in space, especially when it comes to flipping his hips. He will flip the wrong way not just losing vision but also allowing the receiver to create separation.

Doesn’t have great speed and can lose ground quickly when caught out of position.

Spent two years in junior college before going to Alabama. Didn’t break out  or play significant time until he got to Oregon.

Overview

Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports
Man 7.8/10

Hips/Fluidity 7.2/10

Jackson is a talented player with really intriguing size, but not seeing any success until his fifth year of college is a concern. He needs some technique work but there is ability to harness there on late day two, early day three.
