Vikings 2024 NFL draft scouting report: Notre Dame CB Cam Hart

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

Background

Cam Hart

  • Notre Dame
  • Height-6027
  • Weight-204 lbs
  • Fifth-year Senior
  • 3-Star recruit per 247 Sports
  • Stats: 90 tackles, 58 solo, 10.5 tackles for loss, 17 passes defended, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery
  • Games watched: Louisville 2023, Ohio State 2023, USC 2023

Strengths

The first thing that stands out about Hart is the athleticism paired with an explosive downhill trigger. When he sees it happen in front of him, he explodes forward and attacks the ball carrier with aggression.

Footwork is clean in every phase, especially when in his backpedal. Can be successful in man and zone concepts with his athleticism and length.

Hart displayed versatility in coverage. Notre Dame used him all over the place. Field, boundary, slot and center field when motion shifted coverage.

Weaknesses

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Struggles to disengage in the running game. His length should allow that to be easier but he struggles to use it to his advantage.

When in bail technique, he displays some stiffness in his hips. Struggles to stop quickly and can be taken advantage of.

Played a lot of zone at Notre Dame and in turn struggles a bit with his back to the quarterback. It’s a similar issue to Cooper DeJean in that there isn’t a level of comfort but there are skills to grow that area of his game.

Grade 78.9/100 Third Round

Hart is the sixth member of the All-Forno team in 2024. He plays with a level of aggressiveness that pairs very well with his size and length. He needs some development to truly thrive in man coverage but he can get there. Should be a really nice addition to a team on day two.
