Viewers not impressed as ITV The Games sees Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff team up

ITV viewers have been taking to social media to voice their views on the new primetime programme, The Game, presented by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff The series launched this week and is a reboot of an old Channel 4 show which involves celebrities competing against each other in Olympic tasks.

Spice Girl Mel B's daughter, Phoenix is starring in the show alongside former Strictly contestant Kevin Clifton. Paddy McGuinness' wife Christine Martin and other celebrity faces from Coronation Street and EastEnders are also taking part. In the first episode, the singer-songwriter Chelcee Grimes went on to win the women's hurdles event. However, viewers started to switch the programme off while tweeting their confusion over who the celebrities were, Leicestershire Live reports.

One viewer wrote: "Puts the #TheGames on. Haven’t a clue who anybody is. Turns off. That should be a challenge. See how fast you can change the channel over."

Another said: "# TheGames was that the worst opening to a show ever? … and it mentioned 12 celebrities and then it showed pictures of 12 unknown people ?!"

A viewer tweeted: "Watching #thegames and wondering what is the point in all this? don't recognize half these "celebrities"

One person wrote: "Celebrities doing PE in #thegames is not TV. Just bring back #Superstars"

Another viewer tweeted that they were switching off: "that's enough of #thegames - onto something else"

Viewers also shared that they were not keen on Holly Willoughby as a presenter alongside her co-presenter Freddy Flintoff. They felt that Holly was being a bit overused on TV as she has a regular presenting slot on This Morning and recently appeared on Dancing on Ice.

One viewer said: "Oh FFS @hollywills presenting #thegames now. Can’t turn tv on without her being everywhere. Must be why she wasn’t doing her day job @thismorning. Now to get Schofield off that show"

Another shared: "Can't they find anyone else these days other than Holly Willoughby to host anything she’s everywhere"
