In a recent development, the head of Vietnam's Parliament, Vuong Dinh Hue, has tendered his resignation, as reported by Vietnamese state media outlet VN Express. This move comes in the wake of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign that has seen several senior government officials stepping down.
The resignation of Hue follows the arrest of his assistant, Pham Thai Ha, on charges of misusing his authority for personal gain. State media sources have confirmed that Hue's decision to step down was deemed voluntary by the Vietnam Communist Party.
According to VN Express, investigators found that Hue had breached Party regulations, leading to a tarnished reputation for both the Party and the State. Hue, who is 67 years old, had served as the chairman of Vietnam's national assembly for a period exceeding three years.
It is worth noting that the chairman of the national assembly holds significant political importance in Vietnam, ranking fourth after the President, Prime Minister, and the head of the Communist Party. This resignation comes on the heels of former President Vo Van Thuong's departure under similar circumstances in late March.
