According to officials, 38 people were killed in the crash, after the flight was diverted from an area of Russia that Moscow recently defended against drone attacks by the Ukrainians, reported Reuters. Some insiders are speculating that the crash may have been caused by a bird strike or GPS interference.

The plane was headed to Russia after departing an airport in Azerbaijan.
Authorities said 29 survivors were rescued and taken to the hospital.
