Video shows dog rescue from tiny rock after plunging three metres down Scots sea wall

This is the incredible moment hero RNLI crews rescued a trapped dog that had fallen three metres down a Scots sea wall.

Callie the Fox Red Labrador became stuck after plunging from the jetty and into the sea at 3pm on Friday January 20.

Lifeboat crews scrambled to the incident near the former Cockenzie Power Station in East Lothian.

On arrival, the pooch was found visibly scared and nervous as she clambered on to the tiny rock.

The footage shows Callie with her tail between her legs before being lifted into the hands of mercy crews.

Despite her fall, she only had an injured paw and was safely reunited with her worried owner by the RNLI, alongside Fisherrow Coastguard. It was the second incident Kinghorn lifeboat teams had responded to in one day.

Just two hours before rescuing Callie, crews had been called-out to another dog that had fallen from another sea wall at Gypsy Brae in Granton, Edinburgh. Fortunately, the pet was retrieved by the local fire service and the lifeboat were stood down before they were called to rescue Callie.

Following the incidents, the RNLI has issued advice to dog owners on how to keep your pets safe while visiting the coastline.

The professional advice reads:

  • Keep dogs on a lead if you're close to cliff edges or fast flowing rivers.
  • If your dog enters the water or gets stuck in the mud, don't go in after them. If possible, move to a place where they can get to safely and call for them. They will likely get out by themselves.
  • If you're worried about your dog, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
