The new name of the Washington Football Team appears to have leaked early via footage from a news helicopter.
On Tuesday, one night before the Football Team was set to announce the new name of the franchise, video footage from a Washington news helicopter showed Commanders signage at the team’s stadium. This is not the first time “Washington Commanders” has leaked as the new name of the city’s NFL team over the last few weeks, but it’s yet another sign — literally, in this case — pointing to the very real possibility.
Here’s the video footage from NBC4 Sports showcasing a giant “Commanders” banner inside the stadium.
Footage from our @nbcwashington Chopper4 and it sure looks like "Commanders" is the new #WashingtonFootball team name!
(Unless this is all a giant fake-out…)
Official announcement comes tomorrow on The Today Show pic.twitter.com/4R3L19bcrw

Of course, there is the possibility that this is a very elaborate fake out and Washington’s new name will be something else. Then again, there are reports that Commanders merchandise has been unboxed by stadium staff and is being stocked at the team store, adding more credence to the leak.
Staff at the team store at FedEx Field are currently unloading boxes and stocking shelves with Washington Commanders merchandise.
