Video Reveals What Mahomes Said After Re-Injuring Ankle

Chiefs fans held their breath during Super Bowl LVII on Sunday when quarterback Patrick Mahomes aggravated his right ankle injury in the second quarter.

Mahomes, who initially injured the ankle in the divisional round three weeks prior, appeared to be in immense pain after his ankle was rolled and he limped off the field.

But, as we know now, it didn’t impact him much, as he continued playing the rest of the game, eventually leading the Chiefs to a 38–35 win over the Eagles.

But, what exactly happened when Mahomes went to the sideline to get his ankle inspected? Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer previously reported Mahomes refused treatment on his ankle during halftime, and a recent video posted by NFL Films might explain why.

“I’ll be fine,” Mahomes said despite appearing to be in significant pain, followed by him saying “I’m good” in another moment.

Mahomes came back onto the field, and the video shows him hyping up teammates even as he was favoring the ankle.

“Let’s get it, baby. Let’s get it,” Mahomes said. “Let’s get it. Love the moment, man.”

The star quarterback went on to win Super Bowl LVII MVP honors.

Mahomes told reporters this week that he plans to rest and receive treatment on his ankle now, but he should be ready for the Chiefs’ offseason program.
