Video: Is Daniel Cormier right and Colby Covington risks UFC irrelevance?

If Colby Covington takes Daniel Cormier’s advice, he’ll book a fight for himself toot suite.

(Find another time “toot suite” has been used in an MMA story, and we’d love to see it!)

Former two-division UFC champion Cormier, now one of the promotion’s top broadcast analysts, thinks Covington (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) needs to return soon – or he’ll risk becoming irrelevant in the welterweight division.

Covington had a lopsided unanimous decision win over former training partner Jorge Masvidal in March 2022 at UFC 272, but has been out since then.

Not long after that fight, Masvidal allegedly assaulted Covington outside a Miami Beach, Fla. Two days later, Masvidal was arrested. Covington claimed he was punched twice by Masvidal, who allegedly chipped his front tooth and knocked it out.

A fight right now with litigation ongoing might not be Covington’s smartest legal move, but MMA history might not remember why he sat out – just that he wasn’t fighting.

But is Cormier’s take right, or should he give Covington a break and give him some wiggle room? That’s the question we asked this week’s “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Brian “Goze” Garcia, Nolan King and Danny Segura. They broke it down with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.

Check out their discussion in the video above, and don’t miss this week’s full episode below.
